Over the years, we’ve seen the online casino industry look to take inspiration from several sources for new game titles.

It’s very easy to see when you use one of the top NZ online casino sites. A quick glance at the games offered will highlight how various forms of popular entertainment have shaped the type of game releases to have been experienced. Street Fighter 2 is one example.

In fact, the release of the iconic arcade game as a slot game got us thinking. We were putting our heads together and trying to come up with three other retro fighting games that we would like to see be turned into a casino game.

While we could come up with names, we also wanted to try and work out how they would look and operate as a slot title.

Fatal Fury

Fatal Fury is a combat-based 2D arcade game that was released around the same time as Street Fighter 2. It was released by SNK and was one of the first games to introduce players with a ‘dual line’ concept. This would allow players to fight between the foreground and background in most stages of the game.

Given that Street Fighter 2 was easily adapted, we believe that we could see some of the same techniques used to create a slot for this particular title. We could see the game use the old-school arcade graphics like the Capcom classic does, while we could see animations from the game be added to the gameplay to add an extra slice of nostalgia to the experience.

Darkstalkers

Capcom had an extensive library of classic arcade games they released, although none may be as unique as Darkstalkers. Released in the 1990s, it’s a game that could certainly appeal to different types of players. Gamers who have never tried it before may enjoy its wackiness, while those seeking nostalgia would enjoy the memories it could bring them.

In terms of gameplay, we could see the horror-themed characters being used as symbols on a paytable. At the same time, they could use the special features and attacks that they were equipped with as a means of battling each other in bonus games to add an immersive aspect. Players are often gripped by these extra rounds, and with it relating to the characters of the franchise, it could be a great way to keep gamers playing for a sustained period of time.

Guilty Gear

Guilty Gear is one of the best arcade games to have ever been released in some corners. Developed by Team Neo Blood, its initial release was in 1998 but there have been several releases within the series since. Guilty Gear Strive is the latest title to have been released on a next-gen console, having been made available to play on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S. It’s expected to be released on Nintendo Switch in 2025.

There are no known plans to turn it into a slot, but we feel it could be successful if it was. Following the same premise as Street Fighter 2, it could use its classic 2D graphics to set the gameplay environment and build a story. The characters can each be used to add further elements to the story, such as potentially being used to create special bonus games.
